Coach Tom Cable refused to name a timetable on Bush's return until after he sees the specialist. Bush had to get a teammate to help tie his shoes after the game, so it wouldn't be a surprise if he ends up missing regular season action with the injury. Darren McFadden may now have an opening for the Week 1 starting job.

He did little in practice Thursday or Friday, so the odds are against Bush suiting up at Tennessee. Coach Tom Cable did say Bush has "improved," adding that the running back "Took reps, caught the ball, ran with it, it’s a matter of how it reacts, how it responds." Darren McFadden remains likely to start against a Titans team that led the AFC in preseason run defense.

Keep in mind that Bush took the majority of his normal reps in practice last Wednesday, too, yet was still deactivated against the Titans. Though he does look more likely to play in Week 2, we won't have a legitimate idea of Bush's status until he gets through a full practice week. Darren McFadden could conceivably lose 8-10 touches against the Rams if Bush is available.

With the late-week setback, it's starting to look a lot like last week for Bush's availability. Beat reporter Jerry McDonald suspects it comes down to Bush simply being not yet ready for full-contact drills. We're not expecting more than minor role even if he does play as a game-time decision. Check back Friday afternoon for the Raiders' official injury report.

Bush is a "game-time decision," but he did little in Thursday or Friday's practice. Even if Bush is active, it's unlikely that he'd get more than 5-9 carries. Darren McFadden moves up as a rock-solid RB2 with RB1 upside in a tasty matchup with the Rams. It appears Bush may need a McFadden injury or severe decline in production to be usable in fantasy leagues this year.

McFadden was seen "moving rather stiffly" in the Raiders' locker room on Monday. "I'm feeling alright," McFadden insisted, while saying nothing else to reporters. McDonald admits he has no inside information on the injury, but suspects that "we won't see" McFadden against the Bolts, "and possibly longer." McFadden's history of recovering slowly from all injuries supports the idea. Michael Bush could be setup for multiple starts.

Both of Oakland's top two beat writers (also the Oakland Tribune's Jerry McDonald) are forecasting that McFadden won't play this week. "Pick up Michael Bush," was Tafur's fantasy advice on Twitter. McFadden didn't practice Wednesday, and the reporters out at Raiders headquarters have clearly observed him moving around with discomfort. Bush is a threat for anywhere from 16-30 touches against the Chargers, depending on flow of the game. The Raiders don't have another ball-carrying option on the roster.

McFadden will be replaced by Michael Bush in the starting lineup. Though the Chargers rank seventh in run defense, Bush is a threat to lead the league in touches this week. Consider him a rock-solid RB2. Bush is an adept pass catcher, and was already vulturing goal-line work before McFadden's injury.

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>Tafur attends Raiders practices daily and listened to coach Tom Cable's press conference Monday, so he's got the inside track on injury situations. Cable didn't rule out McFadden during Monday's discussions, but Michael Bush looks set up for another monster workload in Week 6 at San Francisco. Among all NFL tailbacks in Week 5, only Ray Rice got the ball more than Bush.

The extent of McFadden's participation is unknown as of yet, but it's obviously a good sign for his chances of returning sooner rather than later. Michael Bush owners shouldn't be so sure that their back will get the bulk of the workload in Sunday's game against the 49ers. Monitor the situation through the week. Hamstring injuries are unpredictable, so it would be promising for McFadden's chances of playing if he's able to practice on Thursday.

Despite practicing in a limited fashion Wednesday, he's yet to "fully push" the hamstring. Coach Tom Cable already plans to let Michael Bush carry the load with McFadden still less than 100 percent. It makes more sense to hold McFadden out in that case to allow the hamstring to heal. McFadden was easily the best player on the offense -- as well as its focal point -- prior to the injury. It's hard to envision him returning to anything less than the lead back role once he's ready.

The workout, however, was "not even half-speed," so McFadden didn't really test the hamstring by opening up and running. We'll know more about his status on Thursday, but it's a safe bet that he'll be a game-time decision again. The Broncos can't stop the run, so Bush will be a must-start RB2 if McFadden is out or "limited," despite struggling against the 49ers in Week 6.
